| | Wallflowers | ] | I think we finished London with the best day we could have had:
The weather was gorgeous, no rain and not humid and gross either. We went to the London Eye this morning, so amazing. It goes some huge distance up in the air and gives great views of London, so we got to see from above alot of the things that we've been doing the past few weeks.
Lunch at EAT (Pret will have to wait until New York...), which meant a cupcake (with pink frosting!!) and a brie/tomato/basil baguette. Shay and Rebecca and I took lunch to Russell Square and sat in the grass and attacked the pigeons.
British Museum next. It's about 3 blocks away, and it took me 6 weeks to actually walk through it. But I was so tired that I just saw the Rosetta Stone, walked around a bit, then sat outside to read (Da Vinci Code--so good!).
Rebecca and I went on a hunt for chocolate, Dorothy Perkins, and a bookstore. Chocolate was once again found at Harrod's, 4 different Dorothy Perkins were all unsuccessful, and after 4 bookstores I finally found books for the plane (5, plus the second half of Da Vinci Code . . . should be enough . . .)
On the way back we saw that Russell Square station will be open again tomorrow! So we get to leave London the same way we came in, I'm actually really excited. The perfect way to get to the airport (assuming no delays, cross your fingers!)
Dinner was brie on bread and Fanta, sitting in Rebecca's room, since a real dinner cut into time getting stuff done before leaving. At which point I totally spaced and forgot to meet Shef for a play. I've forgotten alot of things the past few days, weird things.
So, goodbye London, au revoir (please refer to 'Mary Poppins') |

| | some Simon and Garfunkel | ] | So I came to a contemplative epiphany during Les Mis. That's all, about that. And it was fun to use two big words next to each other.
Anyway, we went to Bath today. Not for long, since the train didn't leave until 12 and we had a show at 730. Bath wasn't as exciting as I wanted it to be. Granted I didn't get to eat lunch until 3 (at least by now the group realized by then that things would go quickly downhill if food wasn't eaten very very soon!). And we spent the whole time in Bath at the Jane Austen house thing. Now, I like books as much as the next person. And often even more than the next person. But not when it means spending an afternoon inside learning about an author who isn't one of my favorites. But whatever. I'm over it (can you tell?)
Les Mis was awesome, the singing was fabulous and the story line is still stunning and brought pretty much everyone in the audience to some degree of tears.
And Happy Birthday Cake with Shef! Hooray for birthdays. I like birthdays. There should be more of them.
People in the group are starting to leave. It's wierd. It's going to be hard to leave. And I know I keep saying that, but just humor me for a few more days :) |

| | Wallflowers | ] | Friday was tea at the Ritz. Which happened to be the most expensive (but definitely the best) tea I will ever drink, so I took advantage of it. And the pastries were amazing, I was so glad that I hadn't eaten breakfast. And I probably shouldn't have eaten dinner, but the dining commons is so tempting...
Not really. But I needed food in my stomach, Rebecca and I went to see Death of a Salesman. Brian Dennehy was amazing, and Clare Higgins was so moving. It was a very strong production (except for the occasional accent that sounded like New York mafia), I look back on it and I'm afraid that I'll sit through Salesman rehearsals next winter and think to myself, "This show was so much better in London!" But I guess that's why we're in college, paying to be involved in shows, and not professionals yet, being paid to be involved in shows. I'm sure our production will be great, there's so much in the department, yada yada yada.
Saturday: Oxford Street, Liberty, Harrod's, Portobello Road. Oxford Street had amazing shops, some very cool non-American stuff (and two full GAP stores within 4 blocks of each other...). Liberty was fun to look around, great stuff to decorate my flat when I move to London. Harrod's was so crowded, but had the most amazing sweets ever. Handmade Bailey's fudge and mint chocolate gelato (which came with our own mini-'shaker'!). Portobello Road was a little bit of everything, antiques and jewelry and clothes and such.
Sunday: Petticoat Lane and Camden. Petticoat Lane was so many streets with stalls selling absolutely everything, from skirts and belts to shoes and leather to random flea market crap. So overwhelming, but some really good finds (3 'pashminas' for 5 pounds, less than $10). Camden was so fun, great Indian fabrics and shawls and thrift-type stores and furniture and stores that were a bit intimidating (like the 70's velvet store and the black-and-leather-and-tattoo store). And all walk of life, people decorating flats or houses(I will come back here when I decorate my London flat!), families shopping, and people who have already decorated themselves...
Once again, this weekend I learned to love London even more. I'm sorry if anyone gets sick of hearing that. But London is amazing, and I'm going to miss it.
Today is the last day of class (woo hoo!) and I only have two and a half days left... |

| | Ben Lee | ] | Billy Elliot was really cool--some extremely talented kids! They make me feel very unaccomplished. They're, like, 12 and playing the leading role in a consistently sold-out West End show while managing to be a full time student at the Royal Ballet. And all I do is pay 45 pounds to see them. Whatever.
The Chancellor guy was pretty cool. Very attentive to each person, very focused on the arts, I think we all had a good time talking to him this morning and then eating the free food at the reception. Granted, free food was a definite bonus, but he and his staff seem decently cool.
We just got back from London Pub again, each time more eventful than the one before. Shef and Holly (one fo her flatmates) came with Rachel, Rebecca, Amanda, and I. Shef has the magic touch, and we all had fun talking and drinking (just Pimms!).
So, in general, I like my friends. We have fun. And even though I don't want to leave London, I know that I have great friends waiting for me when I get back to California. So be happy, we leave a week from today (or yesterday, whatever. Next Thursday.) Au revoir . . . |

| | Maroon 5 and Beach Boys | ] | It's rainy and cloudy today, but it's London so I like it (this is one of the few times that I'll confess to liking rain!)!
We're finishing our big project today, and I'm almost done with both of the papers ( a 1,000 word critique of our project and then the big paper), so the work load seems to be lightening a bit. We're going to see Billy Elliot (the musical) tonight, which is supposed to be fun. I don't think I've seen enough theatre since I've been here, so I'm trying to cram as much into this last week as I can!
There's nothing horribly exciting here. The Chancellor comes tomorrow, we're having a meeting and a reception with him. Woot. I leave a week from tomorrow. That's weird . . . |

| | John Mayer (mainly Love Song for No One) | ] | Yesterday we stayed in the library doing research all day. We were supposed to start rehearsing our mini-scene for Peter's class, but Rachel, Rebecca, Molly and I ended up sitting in the hallway for a few hours talking about religion, taxes, government, sex, dating, creation, high school, and more. It was really interesting to hear that there are so many different views (huge contrasts to my high school conversations...)
Today I worked on my paper. All day. From 11am until 6pm, with a break for lunch and a snack. Over 1900 words done, probably the same amount left to write (a 3,000-4,000 word paper), but it felt good to get that much done. So it's been break time since then! Dinner was macaroni and cheese, which was an exciting return to childhood (it wasn't Kraft out of the blue box, but it was close enough).
Another card from Stephanie. So true! The new biker boyfriend seems like a nice guy :)
Probably going out tonight, even though the rain seems to be coming again. Only a week and a half left! |

| | The Killers (as a tribute to Peter!) | ] | I still don't like acting, but I can definitely appreciate the work that goes into it. We spent the late evening and early morning (1130p-130a) working on the Globe stage. Definitely a learning experience. We're going back tonight, so it should be interesting.
There's been more (supposed?) terrorism stuff here on the underground and a bus, but we're all ok. I think mainly we're just annoyed, it's great to walk everywhere (London is a beautiful city to walk around) but after awhile walking becomes the least desired activity. I feel totally safe, I just want it to go back to normal.
On the bright side, I got 2 (amazing) cards, and seems like the dresses for Drew's wedding are set. As for the dress, I like it and think that anything that Drew chooses will look so good, as she and her bridesmaids have excellent taste and her wedding will be gorgeous. As for the cards, totally keeping them. Erin is still the Queen of Cards, that's all I can say. And Lynette made us a trifle, which was quite tasty.
A trifle and a cookie, all in one day! |

| | Stroke 9 | ] | So even with a 45-minute walk to plan for next week and a 4,000 word paper due the week after, I had to finish Harry Potter. And so I finished it last night, and all I can say is 'Oh my gosh'. I'm not allowed to say anymore around here, people start getting mad.
Nothing else exciting here really. The weekend was spent in the library and reading Harry Potter 5. We're seeing a play at the Globe this afternoon, and classes end Friday (which is appreciated, with all the research and writing that we have to do).
That's all. Just saying hi, hope everyone's enjoying whatever they may be doing! |

| | Sugarland | ] | Saw Mary Poppins last night, it was amazing! Purely magic, pretty much . . . everything worked flawlessly, from the flying and the awesome house of 17 Cherry Tree Lane to the 'statues' and walking on the ceiling. It should really go to New York. I'd love to tour backstage, just to see how everything fit together. So awesome!
That's all. Classes are fine, the paper's gonna be a challenge. Oh yeah-- and I got a card from Stephanie yesterday :) Hooray!
Be good, and have fun! |

| | Stroke 9 | ] | Friday we saw some really uncomfortable theatre. Well, it was uncomfortable for me. I appreciate the effort and dedication that went into it, but I don't think I enjoyed it.
But last night was different . . . we saw Guys and Dolls, with Ewan McGregor. Amazing! He actually had talent, and the rest of the show was awesome, the dancing, singing, sets, everything. So much better than community theater with CCT! We're going to another show on Tuesday, which is also supposed to be a good one, so I'm excited.
Now I'm trying to start research. Except the reading room at the library is closed, so we can't ge books. Which causes a problem, when I need to read books for my research . . .
(look at the smiley face, it really bounces!!) |
